Director of US office of Personnel Management (OPM)

Katherine Archuleta said she would step down on Friday to help the department "move beyond the current challenges". She has resigned after a massive data breach leaked more than 20 million people's private information.

Authorities suspect that Chinese-based hackers targeted targeted the computer systems of the OPM, which is esentially the personnel office of the federal governement.

Authorities in Beijing have publicly denied any involvement.

Among the valuables stolen were:

-Residency and educational history

-Social security numbers

-Employment history

-Information about immediate family and other personal and business acquaintances

-Health, criminal and financial history

-Findings from interviews conducted by background investigators

-Fingerprints

-Usernames and passwords that background investigation applicants used.
